With the summer’s heat, it’s more important than ever to keep your car’s engine cool. Check your car’s owner’s manual to see when you should have your cooling system flushed. This helps protect your vehicle’s engine from overheating. If it’s not time to flush the cooling system, check the reservoir and top it off with a 50/50 mix of water and coolant. Be sure the type of coolant matches the manufacturer specifications.
It’s important to remember to never open the radiator cap while the engine is hot. When the engine is still hot, the coolant is boiling and under pressure. Opening the cap during this time can cause serious burns.
Finally, be sure to inspect the cooling system’s rubber hoses and drive belts, as they are susceptible to deterioration because of the heat. Check for cracking, soft spots, and other signs of poor condition.
