Tech Tues | How to Measure Vehicle Ride Height

When inspecting a vehicle’s suspension, it is critical to check vehicle ride height. Ride height can dramatically impact the alignment, the directional ability, stopping distance and steering. Measuring ride height can be tricky since there is not one standard measurement for all vehicles and many manufacturers don’t supply ride height specifications. To learn how to properly measure vehicle ride height when inspecting shocks and struts, Monroe released a how-to video featuring ASE Master Technician Joe Bacarella.

In the video, Joe covers traditional measuring points, static vs. dynamic ride height, how front and rear ride height tie together, and spring-inspection tips. He wraps up the video by giving some helpful tips for inspecting a vehicle that has no ride-height specifications.
