Basic Tire Maintenance

Avoid Blow-Outs

One of the most important parts on your vehicle is the tires. When properly inflated and in good condition, your car’s handling, stability, and safety are optimal. However, if your tires are underinflated or worn out, your car’s safety systems won’t be able to fully help you when you encounter a blow-out or hydroplane in wet conditions.

Typically, your tires lose a psi or two of pressure per month. Not keeping an eye on the tire pressures can result in the vehicle not being able to safely handle its weight. Neglecting your car’s tire pressures can increase the risk of a blow-out.

You should also remember to rotate your car’s tires every 5,000 to 7,000 miles. This helps promote even treadwear and proper handling. If you neglect to rotate your car’s tires, uneven treadwear can happen, resulting in vibrations.

Additionally, you should regularly inspect your tires for dry rotting, bulges, cuts, and other damage. Visible damage can ruin a tire’s internal components. Identifying these issues early can reduce the chances of a blow-out or accident.
